KMaiL
March 14, 2008
Welcome to the latest edition of KMaiL, a weekly
e-mail update from Kettle Moraine Lutheran High School.
-- NEWS AND INFORMATION --
= FACULTY NEWS =
On March 11, two of our teachers, Mike Goede and Matt Schlomer,
announced their resignations effective June 30, 2008.
They do so with great sadness in their hearts as both have
expressed their love for this high school ministry and for all of the
students and families they have served.
Both desire to continue their formal education, and the nature of
their areas of expertise requires full time student status.
We have learned that both have recently been offered full
fellowships to various prestigious university programs around the
country, and both will soon decide which offer to accept.
We ask the Lord to continue to bless them during their final
months of service in our midst, but also as they go on to new challenges
and opportunities in the years ahead.
We are certainly most grateful to the Lord for all of the
blessings we have received through the work of these two servants, and
they will indeed be missed.
Yet we know that God has specific plans for this ministry as he
continues leading and guiding us.
We can look forward with confidence, knowing that he will see
that our ministry needs are met; and we wait with eager anticipation to
see how his plans for us unfold.
There will be a special General Board Call meeting on Monday,
March 24, at 7:00, to address the positions that will need to be filled.
We can already give thanks for how the Lord will lead us.
= SACRED SPRING CONCERT =
The KML Fine Arts Department will present its annual Sacred
Spring Concert (formerly known as the Lent/Easter Concert) on Saturday,
March 15 at 7:00PM. The
evening will have a slightly different flavor this year and feature the
Symphonic Band, both choirs, as well as 120 students from our grade
schools will form a Junior Choir.
A free will offering will be gathered.
Please mark your calendars and join us for this wonderful evening
of music.
= DEALING WITH BULLIES AND BULLYING =
Peer victimization, a.k.a. bullying, is a by-product of our
self-centered, violent, and sinful culture. Children and teens, guys and
gals do it to each other physically, verbally, and now even
electronically. Though pervasive, it’s never permissible. Join an online
chat to discuss God-pleasing ways to address being singled out by a
bully. That chat will
be hosted by Mr. Paul Kremer, a PhD candidate at Arizona State
University and a member at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Tempe, Arizona.
Over the past 6 years, he has assisted ASU faculty in researching school
bullying and other school related issues.
The chat will run from 8:00-9:00pm on Tuesday, March 18.
It is sponsored by Parent's Crosslink, a WELS website for
parents. Go to
http://www.wels.net/cgi-bin/site.pl?PCL/chat for more information.
= TRACK CLOTHING ORDER =
Track parents and athletes:
It's time to order some track clothing.
Please see the order form at
www.kmlhs.org/athletics/track and return them to Mr. Otte by
Thursday, March 20.
= EASTER BREAK =
There will be no school during KML’s Easter Break which begins on
Good Friday, March 21.
Classes will resume on Monday, March 31.
Have a blessed Easter!
= KML AUCTION UPDATE=
Attention those who enjoy riding an ATV! Attention Brett Favre
Fans! Attention parents with younger children! There is something for
everyone at the 10th Annual Charity Auction to benefit KML. Last week we
shared information on the ATV and some of our Brett Favre signed
merchandise. This week we announce that registrations for many summer
youth sport camps will be available for bidding. If you have fledgling
athletes, you will want to check those out. Need an oil change before
your trip to Disney World?
You can get both at this year's auction.
The KML web site is changing daily with new additions. We look
forward to seeing you at "Springtime in Paris" to have fun and
fellowship while we support KML. To preview the items that will be
available in both the silent and live auctions, go to
www.kmlhs.org/charity_auction , then click on sampling of auction
items! Reservations can be
made online by going to:
www2.kmlhs.org/forms/auction .

held at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 777 Indiana Ave, West Bend,
Monday April 14, from 2-7 pm.
As you know, blood donations are in great demand at this time.

= MINISTRY NIGHT AT KML =
On April 2, 2008, KML will host a Ministry Night.
Students in grades 7-12 and their parents are invited to come and
learn about pastoral, teaching, and staff ministry, as well as
preparation for such service to our Lord.
The evening will begin at 6:30 p.m. with a light supper for those
attending. Recruiters from
Martin Luther College and KML alumni who are students at MLC and
Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary will conduct the presentations that follow
the meal. There will also be
an opportunity for questions.
We plan for it to be an early evening.
We encourage anyone who has ever considered serving in the full
time ministry to attend this special evening.
Please RSVP, indicating the student name, grade, and number of
people attending to Pastor Mehlberg at
rmehlber@kmlhs.org or
262-677-4051 x1180. We
ask that you respond by March 19, but if you miss that date, please
contact Pastor Mehlberg to indicate your desire to attend.
= WANTED! INCOMING FRESHMEN TO ENROLL IN ADVANCED COMPUTER SKILLS =
We are looking for students with basic word processing skills who
can type 30-35 words a minute.
You are strongly encouraged to “test out” of the freshman
Computer Skills class – even if you are not sure how fast you can type.
Students who test out will be enrolled in Advanced Computer
Skills, a course that allows students to skip learning how to type and
move right into more advanced word processing, spreadsheets and
PowerPoint presentations
All testing will take place at KML.
Students should plan to be here for approximately 45 minutes.
The assessment will include basic word processing of paragraphs,
technique evaluation and 3-minute timed writings.
If you have not yet taken advantage of this opportunity and would
like to take the test, please contact Mrs. Schramm either at
bschramm@kmlhs.org or
262-677-4051 x2321.
= SPRING SPORTS =
Practices for spring sports are underway.
All of our home, spring sport competitions are held on campus
with the exception of golf.
Map booklets that include directions to the majority of our away
competitions are available in the athletic office for $1.
Directions are also posted on the KML website at www.kmlhs.org.
With a little under 200 students trying out for the various
teams, there is a lot of activity after school.
The rosters are finalized for track (girls-27; boys-59) and there
are many students trying out for softball (28), baseball (31), soccer
(40), and golf (13).
