We are looking for students with basic word processing skills who can type 30-35 words a minute.  You are  strongly encouraged to test out of the freshman Computer Applications AB class – even if you are not sure how fast you can type.  Students who test out will be enrolled in Computer Applications BC, a course that allows students to skip learning how to type and move right into more advanced word processing, spreadsheets, and PowerPoint presentations.

Semester 1 - Part A

* basic keyboarding (learning to type)
* basic formatting of reports, letters, tables, etc.

Semester 1 - Part B

* basic word processing skills (Microsoft Word)
* basic spreadsheet skills (Microsoft Excel)
* basic presentation skills (Microsoft PowerPoint)

Semester 2 - Part B

* basic word processing skills (Microsoft Word)
* basic spreadsheet skills (Microsoft Excel)
* basic presentation skills (Microsoft PowerPoint)

Semester 2 - Part C

* advanced word processing skills (Microsoft Word,   OpenOffice.org Writer 3 and Google Docs)
* advanced spreadsheet skills (Microsoft Excel, OpenOffice.org Calc 3 and Google Docs)

All testing will take place at KML.  Students should plan to be here for approximately 45 minutes.  The assessment will include basic word processing of paragraphs, technique evaluation, and 3-minute timed writings.  The testing will take place during the month of March.  Dates and times will be listed in the February edition of the KML NEWS.  If you would like more information, please contact Mrs. Bonnie Schramm at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
