Glasses

 

Purpose - The purpose of this experiment was to discover new ways of establishing sound waves.  With the glasses, one is able to tap on separate ones to see how sound relates to ratios and space.  The different amounts of water in each cup give off different sounds.

 

Materials:

Glass cups (6-12)                     $9.99-$19.99

Water                                       ----------

Pencil or Pen                            $.10-$1.00

Measuring Cup             $3.00

 

Procedures:

  1. Stand the cups up in any order
  2. With the measuring cup, measure different amounts of water for each cup
  3. Put them in order from the least amount to the most or in random order
  4. With the pen/pencil, tap on each glass to hear a different tune.

 

The Glasses experiment was a short and simple project used to show how sound waves work.  When tapping on each glass, one is able to hear the different sounds made by different amounts of water.  Each glass makes a unique and different sound compared to the others.
