Follow these simple
steps to build a reaction time. Please read through all the steps before you
begin your construction. Plan out your construction to budget for time and
money.
Step One: Cut 2 x 4
into one six foot section.
Step Two: Add a book
shelf support about six down from the top of the 2 x 4 so that the solenoid and
ruler will be able to hang away from the 2 x 4.

Step
Three: Attach the solenoid to the end of the book shelf support as shown in the
photo above.
Step
Four: Attach a short metal pole to the top of a meter stick so that the magnet
field the solenoid creates can attach to the meter stick.

Step
Five: Attach the cord from the solenoid
to a switch. Run the cord down the 2 x 4 into a Tupperware container.
Step Six: Use
another cord to connect a light bulb to the switch in the Tupperware container.
Screw the light in at about eye level on the 2 x 4.
Step
Seven: Attach a light sensitive beeper to the end of the light bulb.
Step
Eight: Fasten a switch to the outside of the container and indicate which side
is on and which side is off. Attach the Tupperware container at waist level to
the 2 x 4.
Step
Nine: Connect cords from the container to a six volt transformer, which should
be attached to the 2 x 4 about six inches from the bottom.
Step Ten: Attach an
outlet to the transformer along with a six foot extension cord.
