Wind Ensemble

Wind Ensemble is made of the most advanced musicians at KMLHS.  They maintain a rigorous repertoire and performing schedule throughout southeast Wisconsin.  Most members take private lessons with the area's top artists and regularly perform as soloists in area churches and ensembles.

Course Description

1 credit   2 semesters (for grades 10-12 by audition only; fulfills the Fine Arts requirement for graduation)

The Wind Ensemble is an opportunity for students in grades 10-12 who have prior experience on a band instrument to develop their skills to a high level.  The curriculum will emphasize advanced playing techniques, performance, soloistic playing, and expression.  The Wind Ensemble performs at concerts and worship services at KML, and may attend various band clinics and festivals.  Students will participate in regular sectional rehearsals, or make arrangements with the director when attendance at sectionals must, for good reason, be excused.  Band members also have the option to use their instrumental skills in several extra-curricular groups including:  Pep Band, Percussion Ensemble, Brass Choir, Jazz Ensemble, and Woodwind Ensemble.  KML is also a member of the Lutheran Vanguard of Wisconsin, a reputable marching band that travels nationwide in the summer to perform at parades.  Students must audition for this group in spring.
