Learning Assistance Program


Purpose
   The KMLHS Learning Assistance Program (LAP) exists to encourage and to work with students who need additional help to develop essential skills, positive attitudes, self-confidence, and personal responsibility. Through the LAP the students are equipped to be successful learners with the gifts God has given them.

   The LAP strives to achieve the mission of KML-“Empowered by God’s Word, Kettle Moraine Lutheran High School educates, encourages, and equips God’s people for life and for eternity.”

Teacher
   The KMLHS Learning Assistance Program (LAP) is headed by a teacher with a degree in special education and who has years of teaching experience with students with a variety of learning problems.

Students Served
   The following types of students attend or have graduated from KMLHS and have succeeded with the help of the LAP: students with cognitive disabilities, lower IQ, learning disabilities, dyslexia, ADD/ADHD, behavioral disabilities, low motivation and low achievers.

Services Provided
   The students at KML have access to the Learning Center, a large study room that is manned all eight hours of the day.  Students receive the following services in the Learning Center:

  • review or re-teaching of material
  • one-on-one tutoring
  • structured study hall
  • modified assignments
  • weekly reports home
  • modified curriculum (with help from the classroom teacher)
  • training in study skills

  • help with test-taking

  • organization methods

  • modified assessments

  • goal setting
