Dear Friends,

As chairman of the KML board of directors, I want to personally give you the results of our vote from the November 28 General Board meeting, and to share the exciting plans for the future.

Over the past year, I have worked with the leaders of our high school to review our master facility plan, and evaluate our ability to complete that plan by building the Performing Arts Center and the fine arts wing. We worked diligently to review architect’s plans, construction costs, financing options, and the needs of our students. After months of evaluations, the board and I decided that November 28 was the date to take a vote as to whether we should build now or wait to build at a future time.

As we discussed the options, we considered a number of factors including:

  • Building now saves us money for both constructing the building and financing the costs
  • Support for Walking the Path Together has generated gifts and pledges in excess of $3.2 million
  • Our history of financial support shows that we can handle the debt of this new addition
  • A time of high unemployment and a poor economy might not be a good time to build
  • Many of our Federation congregations are struggling financially
  • Tuition could be impacted if current financial support does not remain strong
  • Building the fine arts academic wing would provide valuable facilities for teaching and practice
  • The Performing Arts Center would provide a suitable worship environment and performance venue for federation and community events

After weighing all these issues, evaluating the options, and taking this decision to our heavenly Father, the delegates have decided to vote “YES” on the motion to break ground as soon as possible this spring!

I know that a number of our supporters were waiting for this decision before making a substantial gift to the project. Now is a great time to make that gift or pledge and help us move ahead in a positive way. Regardless of the size of your gift, we will rejoice with you, because each gift will help us share the Gospel message in new and exciting ways. Your special gift can be sent to Kettle with a note that it is for Walking the Path Together.

Above all, I ask that you keep our KML in your prayers. Our “Yes” vote was made with confidence in the Lord and with the acknowledgement that we can’t do this on our own. The success of this project will only be realized through God’s blessings, so I’m asking you to pray that God continues to lead us and that we glorify Him alone through this process.

If you have questions, words of encouragement, or information to share, I invite you to contact our Superintendent, David Bartelt, at his school office or via email at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Thank you again for your interest in this project and for your continual support for our ministry at KML.
