From the Principal’s Pen

Dear KML Family,

Recognition Week has given us the opportunity to recognize our seniors for their achievements in academics, scholarships, fine arts, athletics, and other activities. It is a reminder of the amazing gifts and abilities our God grants to our students. We pray all our students will continue to sharpen those skills, use them to God’s glory, and serve joyfully wherever the Lord leads them in the years to come. God’s blessings to them will be a blessing to others.

In Jesus,

Principal Luehring

KML Summer Camps UPDATE

The Kettle Moraine Lutheran High School Activities Department has been working diligently to maintain a large variety of high-quality summer camp offerings, despite the necessity to revise our previous summer camp schedule. Please note that any camp originally scheduled in June was either postponed to after July 1, or, in some cases, cancelled. Some summer camp dates/times/prices were also modified out of necessity. Please pay careful attention to the updated camp schedule posted at http://kmlchargers.com/summer-camps/.  All summer camp changes have been highlighted.

Though we cannot predict the future, we are very hopeful our camp leadership will be able to offer various academic, fine arts, and sports camps, without modification. Please know that, should we need to make modifications due to social distancing requirements or the governor’s Badger Bounce Back Plan, we are fully prepared to make necessary adjustments to provide a safe environment for all our campers. We truly hope your family can take advantage of our wide assortment of summer camps! Please pass this information on to friends and family who would be interested in attending.

  • Our updated summer camp schedule can be found at http://kmlchargers.com/summer-camps/. Please click on the camp descriptions to see updates.
  •  All those currently registered for a camp will be contacted via email. We ask that those registered for a camp which has been changed, please contact us by Monday, June 15, if you cannot attend the rescheduled date. Following June 15, our standard refund policy applies. Full refunds will be issued for all canceled camps. ALL refunds will be processed at the end of June.
  • Please contact the individual camp director if you have any questions about a specific camp.

Thank you for your patience in this ever-changing process!

From the Principal’s Pen

Dear KML Family,

The reality of our school year coming to an end is beginning to set in. Within our changing time and as students work diligently to complete course work, it is good to pause and thank God for our year together. We ask God to give us strength and focus as we move toward that end together. It has been a blessing to work in Christian unity to educate, encourage, and equip the young leaders God has given us to serve. God bless and be with our KML family, especially our seniors, as our time together draws to a close.

God’s Blessings,

Principal Luehring

Physical Exams Required

Students planning to participate in athletics during the 2020-2021 school year are required to have a physical (completed WIAA Physical Form), Participation Consent Form, Parent and Athlete Concussion Agreement Form, and Trainer Authorization Form.  All forms should be on file at KML no later than August 1, 2020. Forms may be mailed or dropped off in the Main Office. These forms will be included in a May mailing for incoming freshmen (Class of 2024) and for current students. If you would like the forms prior to that time, please stop in the Main Office to request them, or you may download them at http://kmlchargers.com/athletic-paperwork/.

Athletes will NOT be allowed to try out or practice without the proper paperwork on file. Make your appointment for a physical as soon as possible.

Recognition Week

KML believes that recognizing and celebrating our students for their God-given gifts and abilities is important. We have designed and are implementing a new virtual format which we are excited to share with our KML family.

Recognition Week will be celebrated the week of May 11. Students, with a special focus on seniors, will be recognized for their God-given gifts in the areas of academics, scholarships, fine arts, athletics, and other activities and clubs.

Videos will be posted at 6:00 PM each day on our YouTube page (www.kmlhs.org/videos) as well as our Facebook page (www.facebook.com/kmlhs).

We hope you can join us in celebrating the many gifts God has given to our KML students!

Encouragement & Advice Needed From Alumni for 2020 Seniors

KML alumni, we need your words of encouragement for our 2020 seniors!

How are you? No, really –  how are you doing? There probably isn’t a lot of news to report since most people haven’t traveled further than the grocery store.

For those of you who are still working, you might be working remotely, attending meetings via Zoom, or facing other adjustments. On the other hand, you probably have lots of family facetime. My 8 year old has been sending letters to her classmates, and it’s so exciting when she receives a letter back.

No one could have predicted the outbreak of this disease or the effect it has had on our lives. Virtual worship, learning, and social interaction is now necessary. Our seniors are clearly facing some of these realities. Can you imagine not being able to go to prom your senior year, attend spring sports, or perform in concerts with all your classmates and friends? You’ve been with these people for the last four years, and these culminating events are truly special. Although many of our seniors mourn the loss of or changes to these special events, through it all, this class might become more bonded than ever. Because of the unusual circumstances, I would like to join together with you and give them something positive and unique.

Let’s come together as one big KML family and show love and support for our KML class of 2020, from our alumni to all the other soon-to-be alumni. Send me your words of encouragement and support for these seniors. Let them know there is a group of fellow alumni who care and are thinking of them. I’ll gather the comments and share them in a unique way with the graduates. Thanks in advance for your help!

End-of-Year Schedule & Logistics

Dear KML Family,

May God continue to bless your and your family during these trying times! Your KML teachers miss you, and we look forward to a grand celebration on the day we can be together again. May you be encouraged by God’s promises of love, protection, and providence during these times. We will rise up as a Christian family and grow through these times of trial and testing.

Given Governor Evers’ closure of schools in Wisconsin, we are planning to continue virtual learning until the end of our school year. Many have asked about the lawsuit brought by the GOP and its impact. As always, we would be ready to go back to face-to-face school if that would ever occur, but we don’t want to give anyone false hope.

I want to personally thank all of you for your feedback on our surveys at the end of last week. I have read all of your comments and also shared your thoughts with our leadership and teachers. This has given us a great opportunity to hear what we are doing well and what your questions and concerns are. These are new and ever-changing times, and we will continue to smooth out the bumps the best that we can. I am so thankful to be a part of our KML family where we are all in this together. It is truly a blessing and a testament to the faith in our loving God which we hold dear.

Your thoughts have helped us to develop the adjusted schedule to the end of our school year. The schedule is below, but here are a few explanations that may help as you look at it.

  • Our goal with this schedule is to continue the continuity of learning while giving time and support for all our students to be successful. In order to do that, we are going to create space for support on Fridays.

  • We received many concerns regarding the shift to five-day weeks as we have not had any since we moved to the virtual environment. We believe that keeping the four-day week of instruction with the A/B schedule will help keep consistency, and it will allow a doable schedule for our students.

  • We also know that our students need extra support from teachers in this environment. That is why we will run a Student Support 1-8 schedule on Fridays. All students are required to attend opening devotion, mark attendance, and check teacher communications. This is not a normal teaching day or day of additional homework, but rather a chance for teachers to support students. Some classes may have all students check in, but all students with a zero on an assignment or missing work in a class are required to attend class to receive support from teachers. Individual teachers will give instructions about the avenue for meeting with them and who needs to meet each day. All students will have the opportunity to check in and ask their teachers questions.

  • We have moved our semester exam periods up to Monday, May 18, through Wednesday, May 20. This allows us a day on Thursday, May 21, for grading and tying up loose ends with students who have missing work. Please note that many teachers are not giving a semester exam on those days. These days will be used for unit assessments, learning activities, and adjusted comprehensive exams. We have also increased the break time in between exam periods from the normal 10 minutes to 30 minutes.

End of the Year Logistics – Book Return, Lockers, Etc.

We are working to determine the best way to return books, clean out lockers, return medication, etc. and will share our plan with you in the future. Our goal is to ensure we do this in an organized manner so that parents and students only have to venture to KML a limited number of times and follow the social distancing recommendations.

Dear KML Family,

There are many moments during these challenging times when it is difficult to see through the haze of daily struggles and see the light of God’s grace emerging. May God continue to reassure you of his everlasting love and concern for you and the students we serve! I am thankful to be a part of a unified KML team and family who are working together for the sake of our students. We know it is no easy task on the part of our parents, but we are so thankful for the partnership we share. God continue to be with you all. He will lead us through, and we will emerge from this haze!
