Dear KML Family,
May God continue to bless your and your family during these trying times! Your KML teachers miss you, and we look forward to a grand celebration on the day we can be together again. May you be encouraged by God’s promises of love, protection, and providence during these times. We will rise up as a Christian family and grow through these times of trial and testing.
Given Governor Evers’ closure of schools in Wisconsin, we are planning to continue virtual learning until the end of our school year. Many have asked about the lawsuit brought by the GOP and its impact. As always, we would be ready to go back to face-to-face school if that would ever occur, but we don’t want to give anyone false hope.
I want to personally thank all of you for your feedback on our surveys at the end of last week. I have read all of your comments and also shared your thoughts with our leadership and teachers. This has given us a great opportunity to hear what we are doing well and what your questions and concerns are. These are new and ever-changing times, and we will continue to smooth out the bumps the best that we can. I am so thankful to be a part of our KML family where we are all in this together. It is truly a blessing and a testament to the faith in our loving God which we hold dear.
Your thoughts have helped us to develop the adjusted schedule to the end of our school year. The schedule is below, but here are a few explanations that may help as you look at it.
- Our goal with this schedule is to continue the continuity of learning while giving time and support for all our students to be successful. In order to do that, we are going to create space for support on Fridays.
- We received many concerns regarding the shift to five-day weeks as we have not had any since we moved to the virtual environment. We believe that keeping the four-day week of instruction with the A/B schedule will help keep consistency, and it will allow a doable schedule for our students.
- We also know that our students need extra support from teachers in this environment. That is why we will run a Student Support 1-8 schedule on Fridays. All students are required to attend opening devotion, mark attendance, and check teacher communications. This is not a normal teaching day or day of additional homework, but rather a chance for teachers to support students. Some classes may have all students check in, but all students with a zero on an assignment or missing work in a class are required to attend class to receive support from teachers. Individual teachers will give instructions about the avenue for meeting with them and who needs to meet each day. All students will have the opportunity to check in and ask their teachers questions.
- We have moved our semester exam periods up to Monday, May 18, through Wednesday, May 20. This allows us a day on Thursday, May 21, for grading and tying up loose ends with students who have missing work. Please note that many teachers are not giving a semester exam on those days. These days will be used for unit assessments, learning activities, and adjusted comprehensive exams. We have also increased the break time in between exam periods from the normal 10 minutes to 30 minutes.
End of the Year Logistics – Book Return, Lockers, Etc.
We are working to determine the best way to return books, clean out lockers, return medication, etc. and will share our plan with you in the future. Our goal is to ensure we do this in an organized manner so that parents and students only have to venture to KML a limited number of times and follow the social distancing recommendations.
