From the President’s Pen

As we approach exam week next week, our students continue to work diligently while enjoying their time together as a KML family. Each morning as I welcome the students, I can tell they are getting tired (along with the adults around here). Please pray for all our students and, in particular, our seniors as they go through the many emotions the end of a school year can bring. Pray they take the time to enjoy their last days and events and that they continue to encourage one another. God has blessed us in so many ways in what has been a very trying year for many. For that we are so thankful! God’s continued blessings to our entire KML family as we transition to summer soon.

In Jesus,

President Luehring

New Process for Work Permits

Effective immediately, work permits are available online through the Department of Workforce Development. As such, KML will no longer be issuing work permits. A parent can access the site and follow the instructions at dwd.wisconsin.gov/er/laborstandards/workpermit. Payment is made directly to the department through the application using a credit or debit card or by ACH direct withdrawal. Once the permit application process is complete, the DWD mails a paper copy of the permit directly to the employer.

Final Exam Schedule and Busing on Exam Days

Please review the information below regarding the schedule for exam week.

  • Tuesday, May 23: Periods 1, 2, 3 (7:40 AM – 12:05 PM)
  • Wednesday, May 24: Periods 4, 5, 6 (7:40 AM – 12:05 PM)
  • Thursday, May 25: Periods 7, 8 (7:40 AM – 10:40 AM)

All students are expected to arrive at school at the regular time each day. Students who have study hall/commons for the first period of each day (periods 1, 4, 7) are NOT allowed to miss those periods.

Those who have study hall/commons for the last period of each day (periods 3, 6, 8) are allowed to leave early as long as their parent has emailed with an excuse by at least the day before. Parents should email office@kmlhs.org to excuse their student for this circumstance. This applies to students who have multiple study halls/commons after Chapel (periods 2 & 3 or periods 5 & 6) as well. Students will NOT be allowed to call home on the day of their study hall/commons to request last minute permission. Students who are excused from the last period study hall/commons are required to leave campus and are not allowed to return until after school is dismissed. All classes, with the exception of study hall/commons, will have a test or a meaningful learning experience planned for that period.

*Please note: If your student has Learning Center for their last period, they need parental permission as well as permission from Mrs. Krause in order to be excused.

Due to the shortened school day, there will be no hot lunch or cafeteria service on any of the exam days.

Bus Schedule on Exam Days

Buses will run to and from school on all three test days.

  • Tuesday, May 23: bus departure from KML at 12:15 PM
  • Wednesday, May 24: bus departure from KML at 12:15 PM
  • Thursday, May 25: bus departure from KML at 10:50

Riteway – Germantown will have two buses at KML these days at the end of the day, one for in town and one for out of town.

Riteway – West Bend will drop students off at Good Shepherd only. There will be no shuttle bus to take them home from Good Shepherd.

Feel free to email or call the Main Office if you have any questions.

Sports Uniform Turn-In

Uniforms will be collected by the head coach within one week of the final event (or communicated deadline). Clean uniforms should be in a bag with the athlete’s name included. Late fees of $5 per week will be charged on a weekly basis following the week deadline. A $10 charge for dirty uniforms will also be assessed if a clean uniform is not submitted. Missing uniforms will be charged a replacement fee. Athletes should also have their team locker cleaned out within one week following their last event. A $10 fee will be charged for lockers that are not emptied and cleaned.

KML will be hosting various academic, fine arts, and sports camps this summer for both youth and adults. Take advantage of our quality camps! Register online and pay in one easy step! Visit kmlhs.org/camps for more details and for the online registration link.

Host an International Student in 2023-24

KML is seeking families to host international students for the 2023-2024 school year. The number of host families that we have available determines the number of international student applications we will be able to accept. In exchange for a stipend of $750/month, host families provide housing, meals, and transportation from early to mid-August through the end of the school year.

KML’s international students are required to have a high-level of English fluency, but they may at first struggle to communicate. Many of them experience American culture for the first time when they come to KML, and our foods and customs may take them time to get used to. Host families need to be patient, understanding, and open-minded about the addition of an international student to their family.

Applications for hosting for the 2023-2024 school year need to be submitted by May 25, 2023. If you are interested in serving as a host family, please visit kmlhs.org/hostfamily for more information.
