Dear KML Family,
In light of our current circumstances, we continue to make adjustments to be able to fulfill the goals of our events while creating distancing and less contact between individuals. We have made several changes to how we will hold Freshman, New Student, and All Student Orientation on Wednesday, August 12. Our goal continues to be to hold events like orientation face to face with as many people as possible in a safe way. This format will allow for more social distancing and less interaction between large groups of people. Please reach out if you have any questions.
Participants
General Participation: This is not a required event. Parents or students who feel uncomfortable or unsafe may choose not to attend. In that case, a mentor will still be in contact with each freshman student.
Students: We are asking only freshman students and new students to attend. In the past, we have allowed all students, but we want to limit the number of people present. If other students would like to walk their schedules, they are welcome to come during our office hours and do that individually. Students may bring supplies to put in their lockers.
Parents: We are asking for only freshman parents and new student parents to attend. This is not a required evening, and parents who have had other children attend should not feel obligated to attend. Our orientation is meant to give new families a clearer understanding and feel for how KML operates. The event will also be live streamed and recorded for those who choose that option.
Schedule
6:00 PM – 6:15 PM
- Parents and students arrive and park in the main parking lot. Students proceed to the gymnasium entrance and meet their mentors. Parents proceed to the Performing Arts Center or drop off students and watch the live stream at home.
6:15 PM – 7:40 PM
- Students will walk through their schedule, meet their teachers, practice opening their lockers, and receive important orientation information.
- Parents will remain in the PAC for a presentation which covers important information for beginning our school year together (or watch the live stream) and will also have a chance to meet the freshman teachers. Parents may also bring a check or cash to load their child’s lunch account before school starts. Sometimes this is helpful because it is one less thing your child will have to take care of on the first day of school. Please make sure this payment is in an envelope with the student’s name on it.
7:45 PM
- Students will leave the gymnasium and parents will leave the PAC to meet at their cars in the parking lot.
God Bless,
Principal Luehring
