Canticum Novum is presenting two concerts on June 21-22, 2024, and you are invited to attend! This summer, the chorus will undertake its first full-length concert work in Johannes Brahms’ magnificent Ein deutsches Requiem. Composed between 1865 and 1868, Brahms himself prepared a piano transcription of the orchestral parts of his monumental work, and this arrangement for four-hands piano allows a degree of intimacy, precision, and contrapuntal clarity not easily achieved in the more commonly heard full orchestration. This cathartic work highlights overarching themes of comfort to the bereaved and blessings of eternal peace for the departed. Concert performances of Brahms’ Ein deutsches Requiem are on Friday, June 21, 7:30 PM at St. Marcus Lutheran Church in Milwaukee WI; and Saturday, June 22, 7:30 PM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Waukesha WI. Additionally, the choir will be singing several musical selections as part of the 8:00 and 10:30 AM worship services on Sunday, June 23, at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Oconomowoc, WI. The performances on Friday and Saturday evenings will be live-streamed; access the stream via the link on our website.
